The Inevitable Door
Wa likulli ummatin ajalun fa izaa jaaa’a ajaluhum laa yasta’ khiroona saa’atanw wa laa yastaqdimoon (Al Araf : 34)
To every people is a term appointed: when their term is reached, not an hour can they cause delay, nor (an hour) can they advance (it in anticipation).
In shadows cast by fading light,Where whispers tell of final breath,
We face the end, both day and night,
Embracing peace that follows death.
A clock that never halts its hand,
No pause, no rush, just steady pace,
Each soul shall leave this mortal land,
To find its rest, its final grace.
Yet fear and hope dance side by side,
For in our hearts, we yearn to stay,
Despite the promise open wide,
Of heaven’s gates not far away.
Why then do we so dread the call,
That bids us leave this earthly shore?
When paradise awaits us all,
Why do we fear to cross that door?
Perhaps it is the bonds we weave,
The love we share, the dreams we chase,
The thought of those we’ll have to leave,
That makes us fear this final place.
But time, indifferent, marches on,
Unmoved by pleas or cries for more,
Each breath a gift, each moment gone,
Towards the path we can’t ignore.
Remember then, our time is set,
No second more, no moment soon,
Embrace the life you have, and yet,
Fear not the call beneath the moon.
